Position Description:

Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), the Director of Sales Operations is a key player on the sales leadership team supporting the company to achieve its sales and revenue goals. He/she is an effective, hands-on leader with a strong background in sales operations and sales finance. High-level responsibilities include sales operations, sales finance, sales compensation, Salesforce, and Salesforce CPQ. He/she will also manage a Senior Sales Operations Specialist.

Sales Operations Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to help maximize sales, revenue, gross profit on sales, and customer retention
  • Partner effectively with internal teams to maintain strategic and analytical alignment with Marketing, Product Management, Finance, Operations, and Human Resources
  • Define and implement effective policies and procedures for sales operations and sales process improvement
  • Ensure efficient and effective sales funnel, sales opportunity, and sales forecast management through ownership and utilization of Salesforce and Salesforce CPQ
  • Design and implement improvements to Salesforce and Salesforce CPQ to enhance the user experience
  • Develop sales reporting improvements and automation in Salesforce and Salesforce CPQ
  • Prepare sales productivity analyses and provide results and recommendations to the CRO
  • Define and enforce boundaries and rules of engagement between sales channels
  • Act as a point of escalation for assistance with customer quotes, sales contracts, bookings, etc.
  • Implement and support the use of third-party sales databases and their integration with Salesforce
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing leadership to drive effective sales lead tracking, follow up, and customer engagement by sales team members
  • Implement a contracts management strategy and solution for sales agreements and addendums
  • Support effective onboarding and training of new sales team members
  • Develop C-level and board meeting presentations in partnership with the CRO
  • Partner with Sales, Product Management, Finance and Operations to resolve operational issues

Sales Finance Responsibilities

  • Lead short-term and long-term financial planning and forecasting for Sales with Finance and the CRO
  • Partner with Finance and the CRO to develop and manage operating budgets for Sales
  • Work with the CRO and sales leaders to update and publish sales KPI reports and forecasts
  • Analyze historical sales data, identify key drivers of performance, and highlight areas of opportunity
  • Provide ad hoc analyses and messaging to the CRO on sales results, trends, opportunities, and risks
  • Ensure sales data is clean, accurate and compliant as the owner of Single Digits sales data

Sales Compensation Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the sales compensation function with the CRO, including plan design and modeling, quota assignments, monthly commission cycle, and commission payments
  • Ensure sales compensation plans are in aligned with company goals and business strategy up and down the sales leadership chain of command
  • Lead sales quota and sales compensation planning cycles with the CRO and Finance
  • Determine sales budgets, quotas, and targets with the CRO and Finance
  • Partner with the CRO and sales leaders to manage the quota assignment process for all sales channels and sales positions
  • Act as a subject matter expert and business partner to Finance and Human Resources regarding sales compensation
  • Implement and maintain a cadence for sales compensation plan modeling, updates, approvals, communications, implementation, payments, and administration
  • Finalize and issue sales compensation plans to sales team members and administrate the plans
  • Deliver analytics and insights around the effectiveness of sales compensation plan design, components, calculations, decelerators/accelerators, commission targets, pay timing, etc.
  • Provide commissions attainment and expense forecasts and reports to Finance as part of the monthly commissions expense forecast and budget management process
